Goodbye Sanbon

One year has come and gone.

I can’t believe how quickly time passes!  Time really does fly when you’re having fun.

The past week has been a whirlwind of emotions.  I’m thrilled to be that much closer to getting back home, sad to be leaving my Korea friends, will miss the yummy food, but super excited to be traveling for a while.   Other than friends and family nothing makes me more happy than seeing new places and experiencing different cultures.

Packing our belongings up has been a draining task.  I’m still not sure I have everything I need… and have probably forgotten something seriously important.  But, there’s no time to dwell.  The plane leaves in about 10 hours.

Packing for Thailand

So, in less than a week I’ll be flying to Thailand.  Travels to Vietnam and Cambodia are also in my near future.

Clear waters, sandy beaches, temples, floating markets, jungles and trains….  I can’t wait.

Packing is a draining task.  Thanks to my sister and Skype I have decided what to pack.  I’ll be traveling for 6 weeks in a hot, sticky climate.  This is difficult for me to imagine now because I am still tripping over the snow piles as I walk to work everyday.

12 hours of hard labor

We spent 12 hours non-stop today (minus chinese buffet dinner) packing, boxing, moving and dealing with our Dads.  Thank goodness for good daddies though.  They brought their trucks and helped lift all the heavy stuff that I can’t lift.

It´s Okay:!:

My dad is really sad that I’m leaving.  I guess he’s having trouble letting his little girl grow up and make her own decisions.  It’s not like I’m leaving forever…. just a year, with a week visit somewhere in the middle.  In the long run, this year will benefit me greatly.  Saved money, quality time with the husband, world experience, easy access to travel around Asia… the pros definitely outweigh the cons in this adventure.  Honestly, I get more excited the closer it gets.  It’s going to be amazing!

We are still trying to arrange for O’Siris to go with us… I just hope all the paperwork comes thru in time.

Moving in the snow

As I passed a bank today it read 16 degrees!  That’s just too cold to be moving stuff to Salt Rock.  We are only about halfway packed and moved.  Ugh.  It never ends… and more snow is on the way.

The Diva in Blue

One thing I have read about Korea, that I am interested in experiencing up close and in detail, is Confucianism.  Korea has the very large numbers of people who practice Confucianism.  Haven’t you seen those cute little books with “Confucius says…”?  I used to love those.  Now, I get to experience it first hand.  I found a quote of his that even fits with my current state of mind.  I am all about learning new things and getting the most out of life.  Seth and I are about to start a journey that will change our lives forever.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.
Chinese philosopher & reformer (551 BC – 479 BC)

(especially the bitter part… I’m soo excited about leaving, but at the same time, I’m going to miss everyone)

New life, new blog

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me
For I must be travelin’ on now
There’s too many places I got to see

Since I’m going to be moving to Korea, I wanted to make sure that I had a way to share my experience with everyone.  Right now I’m surrounded by boxes and I’m exhausted from packing.  I hate moving.

Life is an adventure and I’m trying to make the most of everything.

Spiral again

My brain feels about like that picture.  We leave in 2 weeks!!!

Oh, and I hope you get my blog site title.  Octopus and Fish heads.  Food has been my biggest concern through all of this mess.  What will I be eating?  Will I find enough gluten-free food to satisfy me?  I am afraid that I’ll have nothing but fish heads and octopus to eat when I get there.  I am hoping to be proved wrong.  I’ve heard that I’ll either love it or hate it… no in between.
